After reading several books and taking a beginners’ class offered by the Jefferson County Beekeepers Association, I was ready to begin my beekeeping journey the following spring. She provided the nudge I needed to get started by gifting me the tools and equipment for two hives on my birthday in the fall of 2017. Honey on warm biscuits has been a favorite of mine since I was a child, and for many years I told my wife Shannon that I thought I’d enjoy keeping bees and producing fresh raw honey in our backyard. How did you first become interested in beekeeping? He is also working on his certification as an Alabama Master Beekeeper through the Alabama Beekeepers Association. Jeff currently has eight colonies in his backyard in Mountain Brook, Alabama and his bee operation has produced 600 to 800 pounds of honey annually in the past few years, which he then sells under the label Sterling Hill Bees.
